Railroad History

In 1864, track-laying crews from the Central Pacific Railroad pushed eastward from Sacramento across the plains on their way to building what would become the western half of the nation's first intercontinental railroad. At the site of today's Roseville, the rails of the Central Pacific intersected with those of the California Central, a small line which then linked the young towns of Folsom and Lincoln. The place where the two lines joined was listed on railroad maps simply as "JUNCTION"

Carnegie Museum

Roseville's first permanent library was constructed in 1912 with Lincoln-made brick and terra cotta from Gladding Mc Bean, Rocklin-granite and Roseville-labor on land donated by A.B. McRae. This library, like many others built during the early part of the century, was funded in part by Andrew Carnegie. In 1979, Roseville moved its main library to a new location near Royer Park.

Lincoln Hills Golf Course

The Lincoln Hills Golf Club first appeared on Northern California’s public golf scene in 1999 as an 18-hole, Billy Casper/Greg Nash-designed golf course. In 2004, another nine holes were unveiled, with the last nine completed in the summer of 2005. The final two nines, solely designed by Greg Nash, are seamlessly incorporated into the original course thereby creating two 18-hole layouts (Hills and Orchard Courses) with traditional out-and-back configurations.

Maidu Interpretive Center

The Maidu Interpretive Center and Historic Site offer a safe, fenced natural haven for families and individuals who want a brief respite from the hustle and bustle of city life. Graced by oak trees and bordered on the south by a branch of Linda Creek/Strap Ravine, the nature area offers a loop trail that takes you past ancient petroglyphs (rock art) and hundreds of bedrock mortars (acorn grinding holes), evidence of Nisenan (southern Maidu) occupation of the site for thousands of years. Inside the museum you'll find exhibits portraying the Maidu way of life.

Mandarin Orchards

The Mountain Mandarin Festival celebrates the start of mandarin season each year. The festival takes place the weekend before Thanksgiving (November 17-18, 2007) at the Gold Country Fairgrounds in Auburn. Bringing over 30,000 visitors to the beautiful foothills of Placer County, this annual event is in its 14th year and is a fun filled day for the whole family to experience great food, fun, crafts, live entertainment and of course, lots of mandarin oranges!

Each year, beginning in November and continuing through January, you are invited to stop by and visit the orchards. Enjoy a day in the country touring both big and small mandarin orchards where you will find mandarins in bags, boxes and baskets. Several orchards have winter fruit, vegetables, and mandarin-related products, such as marinades and syrups for sale and a handful of orchards have picnic areas for lunch. Mandarins make a wonderful holiday gift for friends, family and business associates. Shipping is also provided by many of the growers.
