COPA RAYADOS CALIFORNIA SOCCER TOURNAMENT BRINGS TWO WEEKENDS OF COMPETITION AND MORE THAN 1,500 PLAYERS TO THE PLACER VALLEY SOCCER COMPLEX IN ROSEVILLE
More than 100 teams from the West Coast will compete in the first-ever Rayados tournament at the facility, generating at least $1.5 million for the Placer Valley economy. About 4,000 people are expected to attend the free games Aug. 8-9 and Aug. 14-16
ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Game-winning goals, ball-stealing tackles, big-time saves and strategically placed corner kicks will highlight Copa Rayados California, two consecutive three-day weekend tournaments that kicks-off Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Placer Valley Soccer Complex in west Roseville.
Copa Rayados California will bring about 100 boys’ and girls’ club teams from the West Coast – including some from the Sacramento region – to the Placer Valley Soccer Complex, 2600 Westbrook Blvd.
The first weekend (Aug. 8-9) will feature 13- to 19-year-old teams, with 9-to 12-year-old teams the following weekend (Aug. 15-16). Matches kick-off 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Games are free for fans, who are encouraged to bring folding chairs or blankets because of limited seating. Food trucks will be available.
About 4,000 people – from coaches and players to family members and fans -- are expected over the two weekends, generating about $1.5 million for the Placer Valley economy, from booked hotel rooms to busy restaurants.
“Copa Rayados will give a much-appreciated boost to businesses in the final weeks of the traditional summer season,” said Kim Summers, CEO of Placer Valley Tourism and @the Grounds, home of the Roebbelen Center. “The tournament will also help bring more attention to the Placer Valley Soccer Complex and showcase the region. Soccer tournaments like Copa Rayados are generating a lot of interest in the complex.”
Copa Rayados California comes just a few weeks after the World Cup has helped generated more interest in the international sport and at the start of the youth soccer season.
“I’m expecting some high-level competition,” said Jarret Hendrickson, Director of Coaching for Stockton TLJ FC. The club will bring five or six teams and about 100 players to the tournament. “We want to get our teams ready for the season.”
Premier Soccer Sports and CF Monterrey Rayados – one of the oldest and most successful teams in Mexico – are organizing the first-ever Copa Rayados California. The Houston-based company organizes Copa Rayados tournaments in several cities nationwide, some with more than 500 teams and several thousand players.
“We want to grow the tournament and make it a staple in Northern California,” said Scott Spencer, President of Premier Soccer Sports. “We also want to expand the Rayados brand and fan base.”
There is another goal, though it’s a rather long shot: “Identify talented players who have professional potential,” Spencer said.
There have been a handful of highly skilled players who have gone from playing in Copa Rayados tournaments to being a professional soccer player with the CF Monterrey Rayados organization.
But for most coaches and players, the next two weekends of Copa Rayados California is more about building camaraderie, focusing on fundamentals and improving skills than professional pitch dreams.
“It’s a good tournament to start the season,” said Mason Moore, Head Coach of the Girls Rose 14-under team for the Roseville Soccer Club. His team just returned to practice after summer break. “It should be interesting.”
Moore’s team will have a bit of a home field advantage – Roseville Soccer Club practices at the Placer Valley Soccer Complex.
The state-of-the-art facility, with 10 artificial-turf soccer fields and LED lighting, opened in late 2025 and has already attracted numerous high-profile sports tournaments – like Copa Rayados California – to Placer Valley.
“It’s important to be at a high-quality, top-of-the-line facility,” Spencer said. “We want to make it special and unique.”
But the best part of soccer, regardless of the facility or the location, is just enjoying the sport.
“You get to see little humans play their hearts out and have a lot of fun,” Moore said.
